Santorini

Today I flew from Athens to Santorini, one of the Greek islands, on a really long flight lasting a total of 35 minutes. I made my way to the hotel which overlooks the caldera and is unbelievable - worth every penny. The views are incredible and the below pics will not do it justice. I lounged by the infinity pool most of the day soaking up some much needed vitamin d. At sunset I watched the sun fall behind the caldera from the hotel - what a treat!

This evening was great too. Since today was Good Friday for Greek Orthodox Church, the monastery on the island had a tradition of lighting thousands of candles in the evening. I walked over half an hour to get there and waited with hundreds if not a thousand other people to see the lights. I want what sure what time it started or where exactly it was located so I just followed the people and the cars. I was in the main square below the church and some candles (to be honest I was underwhelmed) and then there was a procession of some religious stuff combined with fireworks. On my walk home I got a better view of the whole monastery and wow there were a ton of candles! I guess I was lucky I came here today since they only do it once a year.
