While I am finished with classes, there are still many "lasts" for the year including last wine club social - bubbly bash to be more precise - quite a bit of fun and great saying goodbyes to many of the second years. Also, last not of karaoke with the Charlottesville crew.

cohort awards
to cap off our year as a cohort, we had one final party complete with sentimental photos and cohort awards which were to the wedge of "most likely to" or "best". Mine wasn't all that exciting, but the event was a great success as we had our best turnout of the year. Will miss these people this summer!

finished
Having taken my last final, I am officially finished with my first year in business school. Crazy how time flies! Looking forward to an even better second year! I will continue this blog through my travels but will not update as regularly over the summer.

brunch
To cap off the end of the year, the school held a brunch for all member of the first year class complete with unlimited mimosas and bloody marys. The theme was country club chic - not quite sure what that means but given it was freezing outside I opted against lily. There was a slideshow commemorating the year and it still amazes me what we managed to accomplish in one year and how I met these people only 9 months ago yet they have become an integral part of my life.

cluster cup
Wharton has pitted the our cluster against each other all year for the inaugural cluster cup. Today's events included a throw back to old school field day complete with three legged races, dizzy bat (who knew that was so hard), egg on spoon race and more. despite our small numbers, we held our own. Moe fun that expected but also more tiring that expected.

prom and the anti-prom
last night was the spring gala with this years theme as prom. the event was complete with a music throwback to the 90s. I guess only in business school do you pregame prom with a bottle of veuve.
since some of my friends were doing an anti-prom event, I hit up both locations and proceeded to go bowling in a dress and flip flops. Gotta keep it classy.

another day...
With the end of the school year fast approaching it seems like every night is a different event or reunion. I know I sound like a broken record but I can't believe how fast this year has gone by. I submitted my last assignment for one of my classes today - so two classes down, two to go.

NYC
Saturday night, after class, I went up to NYC and caught up with a few different group of friends. I always forget how quick the train ride is up to NYC. Love walking through the toy and nice catching up with people. On Sunday, I went up to my cousins place for two of the girls birthday parties - cant believe how old they are getting! I even got to watch #4 (yes we number them) play softball. she was so cute even though im still not sure how you play softball in a skirt - guess it goes back to the movie a league of their own. :)

marketing simulation
I just spent the last two days and the previous weekend doing a marketing simulation class. Translation for those of you not familiar with Wharton lingo: a class that is completely based on running a mock company through an online simulation program. Since this was a marketing class we had to make decisions on which customers to target, how much to spend on advertising and r&d, how much to spend on different marketing channels and so forth. Despite the fact that we were given few resources - every team had a different budget and different information on competitors, we did alright. I worked with a new team of people - we were randomly assigned and overall a success. In my opinion, I'd rather try and learn through doing rather than sit through a semester of marketing lectures and write a twenty page paper. One class finished!

battle of the bands
last night was battle if the bands at Wharton. Several student band performed and were truly remarkable. I am constantly amazed at the talents of my classmates. After fall of the student bands performed, a band made up of professors performed and wow they were excellent. The professors included my marketing professors - post to follow regarding the class. In one of the performances they handed out light up rings - very fun. It was a great night rocking out to these great bands at a really cool Philly venue.

old friends
tonight i caught up with two friends over dinner that i met during welcome weekend one year ago. i barely see them, but they were awesome people i met when wharton was still very new to me. it was great catching up, but also insane that it had been a year since we had found out we got into business school and the craziness began.
things i love
today i love catching up with business school friends, spring like weather, my new polka dot shoes, flywheel and freedom to do what i love.

give and take
tonight i attended a seminar by adam grant (youngest tenured prof at wharton) on his upcoming book/general philosophy of give and take. adam's whole theory is that people are either givers, takers or matchers. in a nut shell, the more you give (within reason and depending on circumstances), the more it accelerates your life/career. adam is one of the ultimate givers.
we did multiple interactive exercises; however, one that really stood out was when we broke up in small groups and everyone had to come up with an "ask." then we had to solve that "ask" within our network. the "asks" ranged from contacts in the handbag industry to apartment leads for the summer to inport/export experts for a guy that wanted to start a business helping afghanistan locals to advice for how to contact the lakers on behalf of a fallen military hero.
if you have not read the NYT article, i highly recommend it (link below). alternatively, you can buy his book, give and take. the book comes out on tuesday.

added bonus: willie geist was there as they were filming the session for the today show. i clearly watch the today show every morning since i am awake and not at work!

so much fun and so delicious. plus added bonus: i am in charge of the event next year! one of the current co-presidents told me she wants me to be the one to own the relationship and event. wahoo!
